DSAT/PADI Tec Trimix Instructor Training Course

Instructor Candidate Requirements:

    MSDT or Higher.
    PADI Tec Trimix Diver or equivalent.
    Fully certified cave diver through a recognized agency, NSS-CDS, TDI, IANTD.
    Minimum of 200 logged dives with at least 20 technical decompression dives requiring at least one deco cylinder. Ten of these dives must have been deeper than 130 feet using trimix.

Upon completion of the Tec Trimix Instructor Training Course, before sending in the application to PADI candidates must meet the following criteria.

    Be an MSDT or higher and be a PADI Tec Deep Instructor.
    Be a certified PADI Tec Trimix Diver or equivalent from a recognized agency.
    Have assisted with at least one Tec Trimix Diver course. If candidate is a trimix instructor with another agency and has taught or assisted with one of those courses meets this requirement.
    Candidates who complete a PADI Tec Trimix Diver Instructor Training Course may count their instructor course to fulfill part of the course assisting requirement. Those candidates must assist with an additional two training dives (any dives 5-8) from the PADI Tec Trimix Diver Course.
    Have a minimum of 350 logged dives with at least 50 decompression dives deeper than 130 feet-BEYOND those required for certification as a technical diver. At least 30 must be deeper than 130 feet using trimix. With at least 10 deeper than 165 feet using bottom gas with less than 21%.
    Have completed the Tec Trimix Instructor Standards Exam AND Tec Trimix Instructor Theory and Practical Application exam.

Equipment Requirements

    Complete open circuit cave gear. Back or sidemounted doubles.
    Two Decompression bottles and regulators.
    Shearwater or equivalent mixed gas computer and backup. (This is MY requirement, not PADI)

Course Materials

    PADI Tec Trimix Diver Manual and Instructor Guide.
    PADI Tec-Deep Diver Manual and Instructor Guide.
    There are other materials needed. See Instructor Guide.

Content and Sequence

    Candidates independently read the Tec Trimix Diver Manual and complete all Knowledge Reviews. This is waived if candidate completed the Trimix Diver course within the last six months. However these KR's must still be reviewed to evaluate mastery and complete understanding.
    Candidates must complete the Tec Trimix Diver exam with a minimum score of 80%
    Candidates must complete Practical Applications one, two and five as oulined in the Tec Trimix Diver Instructor Guide. Mastery must be achieved.
    Candidates must successfully complete the Asessment Dive and Training Dives One, Three, Five and Seven as oulined in the Tec Trimix Instructor Guide.
    Instructor Trainer may add Knowledge Development sessions as deemed necessary.

Part Two

    Candidates present two Knowledge Development micro-teaching presentations from the Tec Trimix Diver curriculum. 3.4 is passing.
    Candidates must present two micro-teaching presentations from training dive one and/or two. 3.4 is passing.
    Candidates must complete the Tec-Trimix Standards Exam and the Tec Trimix Theory and Practical Exams. Minimum score 80%.
    Candidates may use a calculator and the tables in the appendices of the Tec-Deep Diver Manual and the Tec-Trimix Diver Manual for these proctored exams.
    Candidates may use the Tec-Deep and Tec-Trimix Diver manuals during the Standards Exam.
    Candidates who do not score 80% or more may retake the exam after four days.

In Summary: We need two days in the classroom. We must complete the five dives stated above. The asessment dive and training dive one are relatively shallow, no stop dives with nitrox and two deco cylinders.

Training Dive three depth is 100-165 feet deep and will be a full on cave dive conducted at either Devil's Eye/Ear or Little River.

Training Dive 5 is conducted at a depth of 150-220 feet and will be a full on cave dive conducted at Eagles' Nest. Backgas will be trimix 16-21% Oxygen depending upon the depth we choose. In any event the END will be 100 feet or less. EAN50 and 100% O2 will be the deco gasses.

The final training dive is conducted at a depth of between 170 - 245 feet and will be a full on cave dive conducted at Eagles' Nest. Backgas will be trimix 16-21% Oxygen depending upon the depth we choose. In any event the END will be 100 feet or less. EAN50 and 100% O2 will be the deco gasses.

(NOTE: The END of 100 feet is MY requirement - the PADI requirement is 130 feet.)


My fee for this course is $2500.00. Candidates will pay for all my trimix and decompression gasses. Candidates are responsible for their own transportation, lodging and meals. I have lodging available at this link.

Candidates are responsible for obtaining all of their own instructor manuals etc.
